  • Carpet & Rug Care

    Carpet Maintenance


    • Use walk-off mats at entrances to absorb dirt and moisture.

    • Extend carpet life with a high-quality pad or cushion.

    • Periodically rearrange heavy furniture and use floor protectors beneath furniture legs.

    • Area rugs on top of carpet should be cleaned regularly.

    • Use cardboard or plywood to protect carpet when moving heavy wheeled furniture.

    • Minimize direct sunlight on carpets.

    Vacuuming


    • Be sure to vacuum your carpet regularly and thoroughly.

    • Use a high-quality vacuum cleaner.

    • Change vacuum cleaner bags regularly.

    • Use the appropriate height setting for your carpet.

    Spill Removal


    • Quickly remove as much of the spill as possible.

    • Absorb wet spills by quickly blotting (not scrubbing) with a clean, white cloth or paper towel.

    • Remove remainder of spill with clear, mild liquid detergent and water.

    • Remove remainder of spill with clear, mild liquid detergent.

    • Thoroughly rinse the affected area with water to remove any residue.

    • Place white cloth or paper towels over the site of the spill. Place a heavy object on top to help absorb any remaining moisture.

    Tile Maintenance


    • Ensure grout is sealed properly to prevent staining.

    • Use protective mats at entrances and exits to absorb soil and grime.

    • Prevent scratching by using pad protectors under furniture legs.

    Vacuuming/Mopping


    • Remove dirt with a broom or dust mop.

    • Use a damp microfiber mop to remove small particles that sweeping may have missed.

    • Change or clean the mop head regularly.

    • Don’t soak tile with water or liquid cleaners, as it may shorten sealant life and promote mildew.

    • Don’t use ammonia or acid-based cleaners, or oils, waxes, or polishes on your tile floor.

    Spot/Spill Removal


    • Quickly wipe up spill with a clean cloth or towel.

    • Use warm water or appropriate cleaner to remove residual spots.

    • Do not saturate your tile floor with water or liquid cleaner as it may promote mold/mildew in grout joints.

    • Some cleaning products may require grout to be resealed. Check product instructions carefully!

    Overall Tile Cleaning


    • To thoroughly clean tile floors, use warm water, a mild detergent, or stone soap to mop the area.

    • Refinishing tile surfaces should only be done by a certified professional.

    Wood Floor Maintenance


    • Protective mats at entry and exits points can collect dirt before it reaches your floor.

    • Use glides or floor protectors beneath furniture legs.

    • Vacuum area rugs regularly.


    • Minimize exposure to potentially damaging UV sunlight.

    • Sharp or very heavy objects may damage your wood floor.

    • Wood expansion/contraction can be minimized by keeping relative humidity between 45% and 65%.
